Much discussion has been held over the stop sign problem at one intersection of our neighborhood. Here is the information we have available to us.
Our Association Manager has provided us with the following:
We requested numerous traffic studies to be performed by the County at that intersection for the placement of four signs. After this last study, they saw it feasible that the signs be swapped. We have called and asked if a petition signed by the owners would help in getting four signs installed and they said no. The County owns the roads and their right of ways and has the authority to do what they want regardless of what we ask. The only thing that might work is having a lot of the owners write to the County Commissioners office. If they receive numerous letters requesting the same stop signs, they just might install them.
Copies of communication with Comm. Steve Radack's office
Crest Management requested a traffic study which was conducted. As a result of the study the stop sign direction was changed.

Thanks for the opportunity to address your request for multiway stop control at the Lauderwood and Avery Point intersection in the Westfield Terra subdivision. Last year this office rejected a similar request from your office based on the fact that this roadway is in the back of the subdivision and not likely to generate enough traffic volumes to justify multiway stop control installation based on the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) volume criteria. However, given the new subdivision to the west has constructed connections to these streets, the technical staff is willing to conduct the necessary study. You will be notified of the results of this study when completed.

Please recall your request for Harris County to conduct a traffic study at the Lauderwood and Avery Point intersection in the Westfield Terra Subdivision. The study was completed in accordance with the criteria in the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This intersection does not meet any criteria in the Texas MUTCD for multiway stop control. However, the study results indicate that the majority of the volumes are on the stop controlled approaches of Avery Point instead of the uncontrolled Lauderwood approaches. The Texas MUTCD indicates that the minor street approaches should be stop controlled and not the higher volume approaches.
The Harris County Public Infrastructure Department's Traffic and Transportation Group concurs with the study recommendation to reverse the stop signs at this intersection. The process to reverse these stop signs includes converting the intersection to multiway stop control for a week or two, then removing the stop signs from the major street. The residents will notice advance warning signs at this intersection warning them of the timing of the steps to reverse the stop controlled approaches.
Thanks again for making us aware of the traffic issues that concern our community. Please do not hesitate to contact this office if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Paul Hawkins, P.E.
